Winnipeg launch of Original People. Original Television.: The Launching of the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (Debwe Communications).
This is the behind-the-scenes account of a little known revolution in Canadian broadcasting – a journey that led from Nanook of the North in 1922 to the launch of the Aboriginal Peoples Television Network in 1999. A must-read for anyone interested in media, culture, contemporary Aboriginal life, grass-roots and national politics – or those simply seeking confirmation of the incredible power of a dream.
Author Jennifer David has spent her career working in and supporting Aboriginal communications in Canada, first at Television Northern Canada, then as Director of Communications for APTN. She has written several books as well as magazine and journal articles. Jennifer is a member of the Chapleau Cree First Nation in northern Ontario and has a Bachelor of Journalism and a BA from Carleton University. She currently runs an Aboriginal management consulting company called Stonecircle Consulting, based in Ottawa, where she lives with her husband and two children.
Up to the minute news and reminiscences on the book and the founding of APTN can be found on Facebook here.
