Mi’kmaq Warriors Prairie Speaking Tour

Sunday February 16, 7:30 PM

Albert Scott,1264 Athol St.
Suzanne Patles of the Mi’kmaq Warriors Society will be speaking in Regina as part of a national tour to raise awareness about the struggle at Elsipogtogagainst shale gas fracking, their ongoing assertion and exercise of nationhood, and the repression they face from police and courts.
A months-long blockade in opposition to shale gas fracking by SWN at Elsipogtog First Nation (located in Kent County, New Brunswick) came to national attention on October 17, 2013 when the blockade was violently attacked and dismantled by dozens of RCMP officers armed with assault rifles, pepper spray and K-9 units.

Forty members of the blockade were arrested, and a number of members of the Mi’kmaq Warriors Society face charges. All funds raised during the tour will go towards legal support.

Don’t miss this opportunity to hear about the Mi’kmaq Warriors Society’s struggle in their own words, and to draw connections with fracking projects and pipeline expansion in Saskatchewan.

“Our warriors are still being mistreated in the system, justice for our political prisoners of war.”
– Suzanne Patles, member of the Mi’kmaq Warrior Society

The Regina stop of this national speaking tour is sponsored by the Council of Canadians and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), Women’s and Gender Studies Program (UofR), Department of Sociology and Social Studies (UofR), and Dr. Michael Cappello.
